"The migration of workers from
labour-sending countries is usually a result of high levels of domestic unemployment and underemployment, and a high incidence of poverty."
(Sutton, J., National Secretary, Australia,
Problems of Migrant and Guest Labour, visited 2009-06-17)
Labour-sending countries promote labour migration for three reasons:
- As a safety valve for domestic unemployment and aspirations of educated workers for higher wages
- Contribution of worker remittances to foreign exchange earnings
- Skill acquisition by worker while overseas.
