Transnational citizenship

Synonymes ou variantes : Universal citizenship
Équivalents : Citoyenneté transnationale
Ciudadanía transnacional
Domaine : Fair globalization

Définition

The status of a person who is a legal member of more than one country and is thereby conferred rights, duties and privileges in those countries.

Description

By extension, transnational citizenship may also refer to the status of those migrants who create dual or multiple national identities and who maintain cross-border relations.

Transnational migration raises the question of citizenship statuses: transnational citizenship "denizenship" for long-term residents, external citizenship for expatriates, and the proliferation of plural citizenships.
