A multinational treaty signed in 1947 to promote trade by the reduction of tariffs and import quotas.

Description

The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) was the international negotiating framework for eight rounds of international negotiations over tariff reductions and trade rules between 1948-1994. It was succeeded in 1994 by the World Trade Organization but continues to exist as one of the WTO's 28 sets of trade rules.
